President Uhuru Kenyatta was forced to cancel his trip to Kitui County last weekend where he was scheduled to tour after Machakos County.
Though It wasn't not clear at the beginning in why Uhuru had to cancel the trip at the eleventh hour despite his team having put everything in place.
However, sources from Ukambani revealed that Uhuru declined to tour Kitui because CORD Governor, Dr. Julius Malombe, said he will never welcome the President to his county, claiming he won’t betray his bosses, Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka. Malombe had earlier refused to attend the Machakos meeting where he was to pick the head of State from.
The President, who was on a mission to capitalize on the discord in former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga’s CORD to woo the Kamba community, got a rude shock when Malombe told him that he was not party to his impromptu visits to Ukambani.
Other leaders in the County are also reported to have threatened to boycott Uhuru’s visit since they were not involved in its initial planning.
They blamed Lands Cabinet Secretary, Charity Ngilu, who was coordinating the President’s visit, of keeping them in the dark.
Uhuru instead chose to visit Kisii County with he received a thunderous reception.
