Mpeketoni Experiences Baby Boom after Curfew

Recent statistics have shown that there have been an increase in births in Mpeketoni area, nine months after the curfew was imposed by the police.

The area hospitals have been recorded a higher number of new babies being born after months of dusk to dawn curfew following an alshabaab attack that left more than 60 people dead.

The period that has seen a sharp increase include May and June, with births almost doubling.

According to the locals, this is due to couples spending more time together, which is not always the case since most men spend their time working and others drinking the traditional Mnazi brew.

David Kimaiyo, the then police boss imposed a curfew as part of an operation to restore calm and eliminate further terror threat.
