The Washington state city council is now putting pressure on its mayor to resign over what they say are racist comments against president Obama and his wife.
Mayor Patrick Rushing didn't deny the allegations of posting the statement on his Facebook account but argued that they are not racist and he will not resign over the same.
He posted;
“Gorilla face Michelle, can’t disagree with that. The woman is not attractive except to monkey man Barack. Check out them ears. LOL,” read the post.
According to the city residents and council, such comments from a leader will set the town back and destroy its reputation and will be hard to overcome.
“When a figurehead makes comments such as these that sets us back and it's hard to come back from,” police chief and acting city manager Lee Bennett told KXLY, the local ABC station.
Lee Bernett said that the council will be forced to impose sanctions on the mayor if he refuses to step down from the office.
The council is expected to hold a meeting on Monday to discuss on possible action against the mayor
