Kenyan musicians are currently smiling all the way
to the bank after their music rewarded them handsomely. MCSK recently gave
royalties to all the artistes who are registered with them.
MCSK was able to collect Ksh30.3 million between
April and June 2015. Diamond Platinumz was the highest paid and yet he is
non-Kenyan. He pocketed over kes 300k. I still wonder how Jaguar did not make
it to the list.
Below is the official MCSK list of the top earners:
1.
Sauti Sol
2.
Bahati
3.
Lady Wanja
4.
Willy Paul
5.
Mum Cherop
6.
H- Art The Band
7.
Gloria Muliro
8.
King Kaka
9.
John De Mathew
10. Hellen Ken.
This was the statement from MCSK CEO:
“We have noted with concern that majority of Kenyan
radio and television stations are broadcasting more of foreign works against
the government directive for broadcasting of more local works. This led to the
highest earner being non-Kenyan. MCSK would wish to encourage more radio and TV
stations to support local musicians and broadcast the local musicians works so
that we can build our local industry even more. It is disheartening to see that
only four of our Kenyan musicians were within the top ten list of radio and
television stations in Kenya,”
