Come-we-stay relationship is considered a crime in Tanzania

Tanzanian DC Andrea Tsele ordered the arrest of couples living in a come-we-stay relationship. He claimed that there are many streets children because men and women do not formalize their relationship and hence men more often ran away from their responsibility.

He called couples in a come we stay relationship as criminals and urge those who are in such kind of relationships to formalize it. He asked the Ludewa police boss to arrest them and send them to jail.

The Tanzanian Marriage Act 1971 states that a man and a woman who live together as husband and wife for more than two years without formalizing their relationship are considered married.
