Sauti Sol Beat Scoops The MTV Europe Awards

Kenya's top band Sauti Sol yesterday won the coveted Best African Act 2014 at the MTV Europe Awards (EMAs) beating off competition from Tanzania's Diamond and Nigeria's Davido.
This is quite an achievement considering Nigerians have always beaten Kenyans because of their numbers in voting. However things were different as Sauti Sol rolled out a massive online voting campaign that saw their fans rally Kenya's entire online community to cast a vote.

This is the first time a Kenyan act has reached this level of the awards, it makes Sauti Sol the sole African ambassadors at the EMAs. It also means that the Sura Yako singers have made it into the final voting phase of the prestigious Worldwide Act Award category which puts them in the list among ten other international Worldwide Act nominees. We at Nairobi gossip congratulate Sauti Sol on this big achievement and for putting Kenya on the world map yet again.

This comes at a time when the group has just released their Sura Yako remix featuring Iyanya. They recorded the song and shot the video when the Naija star was in Kenya for Coke Studio. Sample the video below
