Pope Francis leaves Rome for Kenya aboard 'Shepherd One', Flight to take 7 hours



Pope Francis left Fiumicino Airport in Rome on Wednesday morning aboard an Alitalia Flight for his first and biggest Africa tour.

Alitalia airline tweeted immediately after departure; “First trip in Africa for Pope Francis has begun! AZ4000 has taken off from Fiumicino #firsttimeinafrica @pontifex.”

The plane carrying the pope is scheduled to land at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi at 5 pm.

He will be received by president Uhuru Kenyatta and other local leaders before proceeding to state house for a welcoming ceremony.
