Why is this monster called suicide taking away our youths?

The rate of suicide in Kenya is high and this is becoming a huge concerns to many. The World Health Organization reports that in 2008 and 2017 suicide reports in Kenya rose by 58%. This means that an average of 317 people commits suicide yearly.

It is reported that depression is main reason why many commits suicide. Depression is a state where a person feels sad and lose interest in social life. It is a form of mental illness that is accompanied by stigma. People fear coming out to get help because the society will judge them.

Anyone can be diagnosed with depression. This means even our children are not immune to depression. We need each other in times of distress. Family should be keen on the symptoms of depression and help one another.

Parents and teachers should treat children with love and reprove them in a kind and loving manner. Recently a pupil committed suicide because a female teacher teased her about her first day on menstruation. In another instance a teacher reproved a student in a parade embarrassing her. She later hanged herself in the dormitory.
