A letter sent to the White House on Monday has tested positive for cyanide after it was screened at an off-site mail screening facility last Tuesday.
According to the Secret Service spokesperson, the letter tested positive to “presumptive positive for cyanide.”
“As this is an ongoing investigation, the Secret Service will have no additional comment,” the Secret Service statement said in a statement.
The letter which arrived at the mail handling facility on Monday, went through the routine tests for biological agents which showed that the letter contained traces of cyanide which could prove very fatal in sufficient doses.
It has not been confirmed yet if the letter was meant for President Barack Obama or some other officials at the White House, but many speculate that it was meant to kill the president.
The letter has been taken for further testing at a different location.
Back in 2013, there were letters laced with ricin sent to President Obama and one Republican senator, and this event prompted the evacuation of certain House and Senate offices to other locations for assured safety.
